September Reads

My September reads are Mine: A Celebration of Liberty and Freedom for all Benefiting Planned Parenthood and Women & Weed by the Centennial Spotlight. Perhaps controversial reads for certain parts of this country. The graphic novel is so thick that I am still working on it. You have to take your time with graphic novels. You’ve got to give time to soak in the pictures and the text.

Mine was full of historical information presented in an easily digestible format. I really liked reading the history of planned parenthood. There was a lot I didn’t know about the history of women and their right to reproductive knowledge. It was very humbling for me. Reminding me of all the women that gave their lives to better mine.

I was really excited to read Women & Weed. After years of going to cannabis events it was great to see women that I recognize having their accomplishments showcased in the centennial spotlight.

Women & Weed was full of knowledge about the cannabis plant. It is a must read for any women that is interested in learning about the healing effects of cannabis, from physical to spiritual healing. It is a great magazine for new cannabis users.

Merry Gentry Series

I had been looking for a fantasy erotica book for a long time so I was super happy when a friend introduced me to the work of Laurel K. Hamilton. Since I love Fantasy more than horror I chose to read the modern fairytale series Meredith Gentry first and then read the Anita Blake Series.

I had worked at borders books so I remembered organizing, putting away, and counting inventory for the erotica section. Hamilton was a consistent name because she has so many books in her series. I was interest in the books but I wasn’t keen on the idea of buying erotica books from my place of work. After the recommendation I put it on my book list.

It took me 6 months to finish the series. It would’ve taken me less the time but I lost the 7th book, “Swallowing Darkness,” under my bed. I had looked for it under the bed but I didn’t see it until months later. When that happens I just go with it and read something in the mean time.

There are 9 books in total in the series.

You can see the list below.

  1. A Kiss of Shadows (2000)
  2. A Caress of Twilight (2002)
  3. Seduced by Moonlight (2004)
  4. A Stroke of Midnight (2005)
  5. Mistral’s Kiss (2006)
  6. A Lick of Frost (2007)
  7. Swallowing Darkness (2008)
  8. Divine Misdemeanors (Dec 2009)
  9. A Shiver of Light (Jun 2014)

Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know spoiler alerts.

The Merry Gentry series is an excellent modern polyamorous fairytale. She had multiple partners. Doyle, the Queens Darkness & Frost the original Jack Frost were Merrys two favorite nesting partners. She preferred to spend her days & nights with them. Her other partners were Sholto, the King of the Slugh, Lord of Which Passes Between was usually in the Kingdom of the Slugh. The rest of her men lived in her house with her. Her childhood friend Galen is another one of her consorts, he was a Green Knight, similar to the myths of the Green Man. Then she was with Mistral the Storm Lord, who liked things more than a little rough. Rhyse, Cromm Cruach, was one of my favorite one of her lovers, and another one of Marrys long time friends. Finally we come to Kitto the half snake goblin sidhe who was very kind and caring.

She also slept with Roane, Adair, Ametheon, Abeloec, Ivi and Brii. I had to be patient and wait for her to finally sleep with the goblin twins Ash and Holly. I developed an affinity for the goblins. Then from the demi-feys she slept with Sage and Royal.

The author did a great job incorporating their fae mythology into the story. I really loved reading about the fae world from her perceptive.

It is really hard to say which one of the books in the series is my favorite. Swallowing Darkness is my favorite because you get to learn Ash and Holly’s background story. I definitely don’t have a least favorite book in the series.

My favorite character is Kitto because he is so different from her other lovers. He is much more sensitive but a different type of sensitivity compared to Frost or Galen. He is a very old goblin. Kito has been through so much hardship, emotional & physical abuse. My second favorite characters are Ash and Holly. I would enjoy a series based about their experiencenavigating the goblin kingdom.

I created a playlist on soundcloud to listen to while reading the series:

  • “Headhunters – Colors Remix” – Yellow Claw
  • “Till it Hurts ft Ayden” – Yellow Claw
  • “Tchno ft Waka Flocka Flame” – Yellow Claw, Diplo & LLNY TNZ remix
  • “Slow Down” – DJ Snake, Yellow Claw, & Spanker remix
  • “Abracadabra” – ICHI
  • “Baby Clock” – A$AP Twelvyy
  • “Devestated, MVMMALS Remix” – Joey Bada$$
  • “Boss” – Lil Pump
  • “Hot 4 U” – Jesse Marco
  • “Pull The Trigger ft Cammie Robinson” – Flux Pavillion & YULTRON remix
  • “Dead to Me ft Lox Chatterbox” 0 Sex Whales & Fraxo
  • “Hate Being Sober” – Chief Keef, 50 Cent, & Wiz Khalifa remix
  • “Bad Karma” – Alex Thesleff
  • “Goosebumps” Travis Scott & NGHTMRE remix

I will definitely suggest this series to my fellow fantasy erotica lovers. Also, a huge plus for being a series that covers modern polyamory.

Samshine Bookworm

Thanks for joining me! This is my book review blog. I didn’t learn how to fully read until I was in second grade. It was a slow process, but once I understood how I was off on an adventure of the imagination.

“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” –Mason Cooley

Now I have more than 400 books in my personal library. I have been collecting books for my birthday and christmas since I was a child. Then I worked at a Borders bookstore for a few years. I have found some of the best books in thrift stores. Sometimes you just can’t find the books you are looking for in a thrift store, so I enjoy shoping at my local comic book stores.
